How to choose your stunt scooter deck ?

Whether you're into big tricks at the skatepark or a street grind pro, choosing the right deck is essential to ride with a setup that truly fits your style.

The components of a stunt scooter deck

The deck is made up of several key components.
Choosing the right deck and its parts depends on your body type, your height, and your riding style.

1. Deck weight : light or heavy?

Choosing between a light or heavier deck is key — your deck needs to support your weight during trick landings.

  • Light deck (1.1 to 1.5 kg) : Perfect for chaining technical, fast tricks. Ideal for skatepark riding and aerial moves.
If that fits your style, you can go for ETHIC DTC decks.

  • Heavier deck (1.6 to 2 kg) : More stable for big jumps and solid landings. If you ride street or you're looking for extra control, this is the way to go.

2. Dimensions : choosing the right size

Just like with weight, the length and width of your deck will determine its stability and responsiveness. So once again, it's important to choose a deck that fits both your riding style and your body type !

Deck length

A stunt scooter deck typically ranges from 49 to 59 cm in length.

  • A shorter deck is more responsive and better suited for fast tricks in the skatepark. Perfect for smaller or average-sized riders.
  • A longer deck offers more stability and is ideal for street riding. Great for taller riders.

Deck width

The width of a stunt scooter deck usually ranges from 10 to 15 cm.

  • A narrow deck (between 10 and 12.7 cm) offers better responsiveness and makes spins easier to pull off.
  • A wider deck (over 16 cm) provides more stability for grinds and complex tricks, and makes landings smoother.

3. Material : aluminum, steel or titanium ?

  • Most decks are made of aluminium, an excellent balance between lightness and strength.
  • Steel and titanium decks are less common but can be a good alternative if you're looking for a heavier and robust deck.

4. The shape and concave : comfort and control

A deck with a concave (a slight curve) helps to better position your feet as the edges of the deck are higher than the rest of the board. This helps to maintain control, whether for grinds or aerial tricks.

  • Beveled decks : Great for park, they make rotations and quick tricks easier. If you do a lot of technical tricks, choose a good concave for better support.
  • Boxed decks : Ideal for street, with square ends for more stability during grinds.

5. The headtube angle : it changes everything !

The headtube angle in relation to the deck will determine the position of the handlebars on the scooter. A steep angle means the handlebars will be positioned further from your body than a shallow angle.

The handlebars are closer, perfect for maximum maneuverability and precise rotations.

The handlebars are further away, giving more space for aerial tricks.

6. Compatibility with other parts : don't overlook it !

Before buying your deck, an essential step is to check that it is compatible with the other parts of your scooter :

The Wheels

Make sure the deck can accommodate the diameter and width of your wheels, especially if you are using large-sized wheels.

The Headset

The headtube must match the type of headset (integrated or non-integrated). To keep it simple, an integrated headset should be used with an integrated headtube !

The Fork

The angle and length must be compatible to avoid any installation issues.

The Scooter Lab Tip :

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to choosing your deck ; the key is to select one that suits you and matches your style, morphology, and feel.

Don't choose your deck randomly, and have fun testing different models because the deck is the foundation of your scooter.

Once you've chosen your deck, you can also personalize it with griptapes, as many times as you like !
